Card_R_02-05 reading Radhakrishnan

Civilisation a conspiracy against our awareness of our utter, utter, utter dependence in all things. Yes, all: even in our unawareness & awareness we’re dependent.

Card_R_02-07

We have a precious faculty — the sense of wonder, mystery, the sense of the marvellousness of our being & of the being of the whole. But it is a faculty that is intermittent, not at all well-established, always being lost. Almost all of us, for almost all the time, fail to use this faculty.

We are like primitive animals with primitive eyes they will not use except under exceptional circumstances. They lapse into blindness & forget they can see. They don’t want to see. Almost all the time they don’t remember they can see. Yet occasionally something odd happens — & they see. For a moment — then they close their eyes once more.
