The wonder of it. The thrill of being eternally unique & valuable & indispensable, for ever an element in the Whole’s pattern.

As Royce says, to realise this difference, this uniqueness, this separation from the Whole for the Whole’s sake both as knower & known — to realise this is, paradoxically, to realise your oneness with the Whole. Individuality pushed far enough, loses itself in the One.

The same thing is seen in love, which emphasises the distinction of lovers only the more poignantly to overcome it.
