Card-S-16-04 DEH The master of the body is not a cell. The cells’ master is a man. And men’s master is not a human Dictator, it is Society. Governance there must be — a supreme ruler: but this Ruler must be & is of a different order altogether. This is the basis of true democracy: the recognition of a Higher, of God, or of Country, or of Man — anyhow without this (really religious) basis democracy does not work. The recognition, of course, need not be conscious — it is not conscious in case of your cells. But note that a man may, can, & should, take the side, if necessary of God & the Very High Monads, as against the State or even as against Humanity.
The important point to note is the limitation of the level. No man is big enough as man to rule as Dictator. No one cell can dominate other cells. The way to Power lies in superseding your level. Identify yourself with the Person — Man. Hitler owes his power to his identification of himself with the State.
