I recognise that you are different from & more than the shapes, colours, & sounds which are my perception of you. There is a tendency for me to forget you are really a picture-head, but on the whole I allow for that fact in practice. Exactly the same problem arises with regard to ‘dead’ things, ‘unconscious’ things, matter. Stupidly, we don’t realise that, just as you are quite different from - and in fact the opposite of what you are for me, so matter is in itself the opposite of what it is for us.
