Society’s perception of the rose is a synthesis of all our perceptions, & what Realism calls the real rose is Society’s rose, which V [downward arrow] breaks up into our partial perceptions of this more concrete perception by Society.

Extent of Will
Index-Card-J-33-13 DEH A dialogue with C.S as to how far your will extends, & how far human will extends. If will extends oney to the immediate act of your body, what about the tool you wield? What about the order whose effects you watch & control all along? What about the car you drive. All this is true bodily extension. But the extension becomes truer or more valid as you become more fully conscious of its workings… Extending this doctrine it is easy to see how the real inside story of all causation is conscious willing. Every event on Earth’s surface, e.g. the growth of a wild flower in a certain spot, is in 100 ways determined by what myriads of men have willed. Our human wills converge into a vaster social will… It ends in the discovery that all that happens is, in the end, your true will’s will.
