Joad
Index-Card-J-34-05 Individuality Joad [DH] Everything is different from everything else, unique. This is their individuality which science ignores.
DEH Mabel must ignore this too in her description of you, but she must first recognise your unique individuality. This individuality is implied in C.S’s first answer to the question “what are you?” You are Mr Smith, address — Road, —town. Your character is —, job —, age — & so forth. This is what you are. It is the description of your individuality, & it is vastly important. For you are a unique & special person.
This section had better precede Chapter (1); as part of it perhaps: it is too short for a separate chapter.
Revert again to this uniqueness in Chs 21, 22, 24 etc. Free will comes in here too.
